A Greeting from the President
Welcome to Fuji Women's University website!
Our university is an educational institution for women, basically inspired by a Catholic spirit, but, of course, it respects the freedom of faith and belief.
However, in order to convey the Christian vision of humanity, and a Christian hierarchy of values, we have “Christianity” and “Bible” classes as required subjects.
Christianity, and concretely speaking Catholicism, is at present the largest world religion. We hope and pray that each and every one of our students develop a universal open mind, and love for mankind, as well as a spirit of service to people.
The Catholic Church is a religious institution created by Jesus Christ, and is spread all over the world. During 2000 years Christianity has practically molded Western culture to the point that for those who want to know and understand Western culture, some previous knowledge of Christianity becomes absolutely necessary. Yet nowadays, the Catholic Church is also having a great influence in Asia and Africa.
The atmosphere of freedom that one naturally feels in this university emanates precisely from this Catholic spirit (“Catholic” means universal). In this atmosphere of freedom our students are taught and encouraged to grow as persons, both in the sense of personal responsibility, and by trying to satisfy a healthy intellectual curiosity.
It could be said that for a university student “university” would mean something like experiencing the joy of learning, and experiencing also the joy of personal encounters and new friendships. Our university, being a rather small one (2200 students), offers, among other things, the possibility of close relationships between teachers and students.
At the same time, our university is gifted with an international flavor. It has a special relationship with, and fosters exchange of students as well as of professors with some other universities abroad, namely, the United States, Australia, Korea and Taiwan.
The ideal and purpose of Fuji Women’s University is to form and send to society women with real “class”, women capable of leadership, women who are open minded and sensitive to the needs of society, women who convey warmth and light to their own milieu, in other words “women for others”.
